Make you wanna
For the first time in ages, last night I turned on the television and watched the local news. I was reminded why I don't watch it much, especially at night. It was a steady stream of murder, worry and mayhem from what seemed like negative people in a darkened broadcasting studio. Needless to say, those are not the images I needed in my head as I was about to drift off to sleep.
In Psalm 34, David had not rose to power in Israel, but ran for his life from a demented King Saul often finding safety close to or in the enemy's camp. But he didn't stay hidden long and made his way back home after God took Saul out of the picture. Microcosm of America: most people can smile again against the background of loud and angry losers who demonstrate their love for darkness and hate for God. It does not mean that everything will be good, but simply that a lot of bad was held back—for now.
Who but You, O Lord, can give hope in the darkness?
