Today's Scripture: "The words of a man's mouth are deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook." Pr. 18:4
5639. A good investment yields good fruit. JG
Recently a friend accompanied me on a two-day whirlwind business trip in my truck. I didn't need his help and I normally spend my time on the road with Scripture memory cards that segue into prayer with sign language. But this trip I decided to spend time talking with my friend and it turned out to be a wise investment. Of all the years we spend doing things, I wonder if we often miss doing the simple things that would be the most significant and meaningful.
For over thirty years a pastor of a prominent church in Titusville, Florida did the things a good pastor would do. A few years ago I sought that man out to find out if he was still alive and was delighted to find he was. I was especially encouraged to find he was meeting regularly with young men who needed discipling. In an interview with Peter Lord, he stated that while he was glad to have served church families over all those years. But if he had it to do over he would choose doing what he is doing today. Some people will hear this and identify pulpit preaching as a worthy lifetime aspiration. Of course they would need to know what shaping one disciple at a time (like Jesus did) in order to make the right decision.
I choose to use my breath today, Lord, to encourage, edify and exhort those who need it.
