Go - no go
Growing up I was taught that sharing the gospel should be the goal of my Christian life. I was told the Bible supports such teaching because evangelism is another term for discipleship and preaching is synonymous with making disciples. I was also taught that church "growth" is the goal of the body where lost people come into the sanctuary on Sunday, respond to an altar call after hearing a "sinner's" prayer to be saved and are later baptized. May I say with all respect that teaching is false. While sharing the gospel is my responsibility, it has nothing to do with discipleship which is the essence of His Great Commission of "Go" and "Make" disciples (Mt. 28:19-20).
In 1999 I felt the urge to use the Internet as a means to make disciples. This led me to develop Just Thinkin'..." a daily devotion to teach discipleship. Even though I didn't use that term much back then, God was teaching me to adhere to Scriptural admonition rather than denominational doctrine at odds with it. Today, I'm proud to call myself a believer and a follower of Jesus Christ, rather than a "member" of a certain denomination. In other words, my allegiance is with Scripture which I will obey even when my church doesn't. As for denominations, I plan to remain where I am until I am asked to leave or something better (closer to Scriptural compliance) comes along.
I thirst to hear, read, study, memorize, meditate on and apply Your word, God.
