Today's Scripture: "The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe." Pr. 18:10

Know that song
It may take a few months but occasionally a familiar verse of Scripture will appear for me to analyze and teach. Proverbs 18:10 is such a verse, if for no other reason than it and a picture of a tower is used in Prayertower's logo. I especially like the idea of God's protection being afforded those who find shelter under it. But what does it mean to be safe?
For years I've enjoyed singing a song using this verse as its title. But I can't help but smile when everyone misquotes it without correction from the one leading it. Almost without exception, everyone uses the word "saved" in place of "safe." The wrong word fits the evangelical mindset but the two words are not mutually inclusive. The next thing I expect to happen is the song (with the right word) be reprinted using the wrong word and no one will note a difference. The final "nail" will come when some Bible translation replaces the correct word for the preferred word. Welcome to life in this lazy hazy nation of "believers."
Thank You, God, for safety that comes when I'm obedient to Your word.
