Today's Scripture: "You shall also make a covering of ram skins dyed red for the tent, and a covering of badger skins above that."
5720. Teaching is not as much about knowledge as humility. JG
It's been my privilege to teach recovering addicts for over two years. My challenge has been to teach them what Scripture says about having a relationship with God. Last night, however, was a new experience. Not only was it a new night but my class was elevated to a higher degree and chemical dependency was added to my subject matter. It was interesting that neither God nor Scripture was mentioned in the dependency manual but I will cover it in my discussion of spiritual relationships.
It was with trepidation that I even accepted the challenge to talk on this subject. I opted out when told of the changes in the course, first because I can't relate to the problem, and secondly I don't want to preach about that which I have no experience. My resignation was not accepted by the person in charge nor did my wife's counsel give me a way out. She told me if I quit the men would not hear the uncompromising word of God. It was then I was convinced to continue.
Last night was my first night and I began with prayer followed by a confession of my lack of empathy and my disagreement with the assertion they had a disease. To my surprise, three things then happened. There was more discussion and interest about Scripture than ever before and when the class ended there was spontaneous applause. Then several men approached me to encourage me and tell me how to get more information about certain addictions. I laughingly told my wife later that the applause was probably the result of the men having taken a course in hospitality.
Thank You for reminding me that my battles are really Yours, God.
