Today's Scripture: "A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother." Pr. 18:24
5782. We honor someone by spending time with them, not giving them gifts. JG
Graduating high school in 1965, I had friends, but some of them were closer than others. The ones I hung with mostly were in the vocal music program, but even closer were those I knew from church who attended my school. And then there were one or two people with whom I would've spent all my time if I could. Interestingly, a lifetime later all of those friendships became what you can barely call an acquaintance. That's because we've failed to stay in frequent touch, some even dying and leaving me a fading memory of what was.
Last night a few of my high school acquaintances met at Overton Square to honor the naming of a restaurant after one of our classmates. It was good to see everyone, but honestly, none of those attending were what I'd call a friend in high school. But sitting beside me was a friend of thirty-seven years with whom I will spend every day of my life sharing it together. In the end, however, only one Friend will remain and that's the Lord Jesus Christ with whom I will share eternity. Friends are good, you know? The best ones are the ones you spend time with knowing they will never leave and never forget you.
I treasure the time spent in Your word, God, discussing it with the Spirit and walking with Jesus.
