Today's Scripture: "But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them." Jn 10:12

See it.

You have one message.

Live it.

In a world of drive through and quick-change artistry, it's unusual to see someone stay steady and maintain the course in anything. This is especially true in the high-pace world in which we live. The traditional ATT wired-phone was the device that at one time connected us to the outside world. Of course, someone had to be there to pick up the receiver or see the flashing light on the answering machine when a message was left in your absence. Today we have mobile phones, beepers, tablets and all sorts of satellite communication that goes where we go. But one thing is true of all communication devices. You have to pay attention to messages or it doesn't matter what device you have.

This past Sunday morning and substituting for our teacher, I decided it was a good time to introduce the world to one my staff members. His name is Carl and like the old man from Pixar's movie, UP, is actually me made up to be like him. Friday and Saturday had been an enormous scavenger hunt to get the outfit and appurtenances ready. Sunday morning, my wife helped with my hair and makeup and with three balloons we set out for church to find the parking lot empty. We pulled up the doors and were met by two pastors asking how we didn't know about the cancellation. As we drove off, my wife checked her phone and we realized we were so busy getting ready, we'd failed to read an email. No one's fault but our own.

Pray it.

Don't let me get so busy, Lord, that I miss Your prompting.
