Today's Scripture: "He brought them out, after he had shown wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years." Acts 7:36

This week another step was taken in ministry as I started exercising my latent musical skills. Music had always been a part of my life until a few years ago when churches started serenading me with light-rock music in lieu of involving me in hymns and vocal praise. As corporate worship service became more performance-based, leadership replaced the equipping of the saints with a kind of Sunday "sermonizing" and soft evangelism. This is not a local issue but the contagion has spread. Congregations resemble switching between cable channels to see different versions of the same program. Never before has the term "programming" been so applicable. Thank God, not all churches have succumbed to this canned perversion.
This week as I closed my talk to men in rehab, one black man boldly asked me what I thought of the black community. This question came after I handed out my business card and offered to talk with and meet any of the men after their "release." I was shocked at first, but his question was not to expose typical Memphis bias and bigotry in me, but to know my thoughts according to Christ in me. He must have been pleased with my answer because he called me this week to thank me for taking time to serve. I would not be surprised to see this as the beginning of something special, a wonder in the wilderness to replace a wander.
Signs are nice, God, but Your wonders have never ceased and are duly noted.
