Today's Scripture:"Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings." Jn 10:19

5851. Neither evidence nor argument can settle all disagreements. JG

See it.

Words matter

Live it.

My family honored me on Father's day by taking me to lunch at a restaurant of my choice. The place I chose was one I knew they liked to frequent but they didn't know that. It was a pleasant time overall and I ordered 10oz rib-eye, varying my usual choice of steak. When the food was delivered, the server asked who had the prime rib. I looked around the table because I thought the choice was highly unusual. Then two people told the server, "It's his," speaking of me. When I said that I hadn't ordered it, I was told that I did. So, I thanked the server and enjoyed the meal. Quietly, however, I was concerned that I was losing control of my speech and memory.

Our experience that day was a pleasant one though our server was overworked. I am convinced that had our disagreement happened at any other table, someone would have gone nuclear and a brawl would have taken place. That's because it's rare to find deference in this generation. Instead of quietly accepting changes to your plans, people tend to get angry and that often leads to physical altercation. If you don't believe me, just look at today's news and social media postings and then turn it off.

Pray it.

Were it not for Your word, God, truth in journalism would be an oxymoron.
