Today's Scripture: "You shall also make the court of the tabernacle. For the south side there shall be hangings for the court made of fine woven linen, one hundred cubits long for one side." Ex 27:9
5859. Worship is when the heart of man and God meet, not where. JG
We wanted to attend church services in the newly completed facility near our home, but purposefully stayed away. We avoided all the various things that take place when something new is introduced. When we showed up a few weeks later, it was still difficult to find a parking place and challenging to find a seat in the auditorium. Impressed with the modest size and decor of the place, we surmised it was already time for another building program. My wife and I joined later based on the fact there was a choir and a good music program. A year later, the crowd is reduced and we are pleased with our decision to join the congregation.
This account in Exodus is one of countless specifications for the way God's house is to be constructed. The courtyard was the standing-room only gathering place outside the Holy of Holies. It was a nice place to gather but the real action was off stage. While beautiful sanctuaries are nice and quality programs attractive, in the end all that matters is the quality of worship.
It doesn't matter where we meet, Lord, it becomes the most beautiful sanctuary.
