Today's Scripture: "I will give You thanks in the great assembly; I will praise You among many people." Ps 35:18

Someone failed to tell the birds I was sitting on the garden swing early this morning. To my right a beautiful cardinal split his time between the water and the feeder aloof to the watching eye of the gardener. A normally illusive hummer sucked the sweet water to my left and a bumblebee checked flowers at my feet for any remaining nectar. Few sounds permeated my silent sanctuary and stillness provided the background music to my worship of God.
Last night I visited an old friend in the hospital who, for lack of a better way to say it, wanted to tell me goodbye. With failing heart, liver and kidney, this was the only place to administer dialysis thinking he would be dead by now. I haven't seen Art in many years but he and Debbie were my good friends. I will always remember him as my partner who, without reward, delivered pizzas to a large struggling family every Tuesday night for well over a year. As I sat alone this morning, I thanked God for this faithful servant, who without church affiliation these days proved to be my companion in ministry. I also thanked God for bringing me "pizza" this morning as an unexpected reminder: Death is but a slight course alteration on the way home where there is no fear in God's family.
As I give of my time to others, thank You, God, that I can never out give You.
