Today's Scripture: "If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken)" Jn 10:35

It didn't take long for the man in the back of the classroom to raise his hand. He had been smirking since the opening prayer and found pleasure in questioning my affirming the authority of Scripture. Stating he was an atheist, I used much of the remaining time to quote Scripture references that defended itself but he was not teachable. So it is in this generation. People are drowning in doubt and despair, yet they question anyone who seems to have risen above it by faith in Jesus and the word.
Recently it was incumbent upon me to narrow my focus for ministry and today's Scripture confirms the decision I made years ago. The foundation upon which I teach people to pray and make disciples is using Scripture to do both. I have no doubt people read the Bible occasionally and many even read through it in a year. They follow the pastor's sermon and teacher's lesson, but for most people it stops there. They do not memorize it or meditate upon it or apply it. Therefore essentially we've become a people who hear the word of God but do not do it. As for me, waking up a sleeping Christian is easy. It's getting past the firewall that put them to sleep that's the challenge.
Thank you, God, that we are not judged by our ignorance of sin as much as our tolerance of it.
