Today's Scripture: "But Solomon built Him a house." Acts 7:47

Our backyard has been my nemesis for as long as I can remember. With more crepe myrtles and red birch trees per square foot than a nursery, every invasive vine known to man have taken over. Add to that, being downstream to rain water from other yards soil erosion has reduced the topsoil to reveal roots above the ground. We took the first step yesterday to cooperate with nature rather than try to change it. We laid the foundation to an extended covered patio and used removed sod to cover bare spots in the yard. The extended patio required me to move two gardenia bushes to the first of many beds to be surrounded by a bordered rock swale to direct water flow around the patio to the street.
Only time will tell if our work accomplishes our goal, but what was done yesterday was a big step. My challenge is to utilize everything we have in a positive way and minimize introducing anything new. Not everyone was excited about my vision for converting our backyard swamp to a garden. But looking over the project today, it should be easier to imagine it, but there's still much work to do. After all, who leaves a foundation and never builds upon it?
Thank You, God, for continuing the work in me that You started.
