Today's Scripture: "And many believed in Him there." Jn 10:42

It can be frustrating as the new kid on the block. Becoming acclimated to a crowd who knows everyone else, you find yourself among people who don't know anything about you, your parents or your children, much less your history. That's to be expected because you don't know anything about them either. For a body of people supposed to be spending eternity together, you'd think such a fellowship would be loving and inclusive, but that's rarely the case.
Recently I heard a preacher address an assembly of pastors on the idea that members moving from one church to another was wrong. One congregation for life was his idea of biblical dogma. His absurd sermon got great applause from the crowd and I realized why most churches are decomposing before our eyes. The purpose of the church is not to pander to loyal members, but to reach out and embrace the lost. Who wants to leave a congregation where they are loved and who wants to stay where they aren't?
Teach us, the church, Lord, to love the unlovely as much or more than the lovely.
