The church house
Possibly the greatest detriment to the church has been allowing the name used to define followers of Jesus to define the marked building where they meet. The word "church" is ingrained in everything we do and say and will never be undone, much like using the word "Christian" to denote a church-goer.
What started as a small group of believers meeting privately in homes to avoid persecution by corporate religion and the government, has become a large meeting of people, some redeemed, most not, in a governmental ordained building. In return for full disclosure of donations and staying politically correct from the pulpit, the 501c3 church is granted tax-free property, no tax on corporate income and members' reduction on personal taxes for disclosed gifts. What you might call holy, I call stinky. What you think is a "guaranteed" right to free worship, I see as exposing the narrow versus the broad road that leads to destruction (Rev 3:20).
As the world squeezes us, Lord, draw Your people together to make the right choices.
