The Mad hatter
Thirty years ago, a friend of mine was in seminary and ready to get his first church call. But he dealt with a balding head which he believed made him look older and less desirable than he was. So when he wasn't wearing a toupee, it was a ball cap to cover his baldness. He planned to someday get rid of the artificial cover on his head and be natural. We laughed about it, but hat on or off, he is a good man who has made a fine preacher. And we both know congregations shouldn't care as much about looks as the humility and spirit of a pastor.
As the image (above) suggests, many people are donning their ugly sweaters and goofy hats for office parties. As my wife left for work with reindeer antlers on her head and Christmas lights wrapped around her Christmas sweater, I urged her to be extra careful on the road. Forget about Granny running over you, watch out for drivers on wet roads distracted by someone wearing lights and antlers.
We don't need head cover, God, because the Holy Spirit does it just fine.
