Recently I posted on social media advice for someone who aspires to become a disciple-maker: 1) Don't read devotionals, write them and 2) stop listening to sermons and start preaching. It was not surprising that advice got few "likes." That's because congregations have become lazy listeners, seldom serving and teaching/pastoring has become preaching to the same congregation with an normally ignored altar call.
Years ago I assumed 2 Timothy 4:2 as my calling. What I do required preparation and having a plan to allow God to equip me for executing it. For the past three years I have utilized those skills to preach to recovering addicts and leading a prayer band of men. Have I stopped preparing? No. Now I prepare to take on a new ministry to make prayer warriors among congregations I do not know. I also get ready to deal with obstacles who work with the Enemy to keep the congregation ignorant and dumbed down.
I ask You, God, to break down and expose opposition to Your work from within our own ranks.
