6124. Almost gets you as much nothing as never. JG
Attending college away from home and not doing so well, I was in danger of being drafted for military service. So my Mom asked me to come home even before the third semester was finished. So I did what any good son would do before leaving school. I joined the Marines, or so I thought. Showing up later at the induction station, I expected to see dress blues and be given some. But all I saw was barely covered young men being examined by doctors probing areas I will not mention. Arriving at check-out, surprisingly the doctor stamped my application as "Not-acceptable." That was a mistake which a year later they corrected. Turned out the Marines have worse memory than this "almost" inductee.
Thank You, God, for delivering me from my ignorance—more times than I can count.
